Lincoln Center Festival once again takes its place as the focal point of New York City’s summer festival season.
Soul music icon Curtis Mayfield, who would have been 70 this year, is feted with a one-night-only tribute featuring Mavis Staples and Bilal among others. The New York premiere of the opera Émilie is inspired by the life of French mathematician Émilie du Châtelet and stars soprano Elizabeth Futral under the direction of Marianne Weems.
Other highlights include Mikhail Baryshnikov returning to the theater to perform In Paris, a new play by Dmitry Krymov. And Alan Cumming channels desire, ambition and the supernatural in National Theatre of Scotland’s one-person interpretation of Macbeth.
