Have you been to America’s home of hipness?
A new year calls for a city-wide celebration of new works, all guaranteed to pick-up on the Portland vibe of hip.
That’s just what the Portland Area Theatre Alliance does in Fertile Ground. Since it is 2012, take in B’aktun, an end-times production by Teatro Milagro where three Mexican deportees find their way to Mayan ruins and into a dark journey. Ablaze, an a cappella musical thriller is an unapologetic look at the lives of teenagers, replete with personal demons and vendettas.
In workshops, don’t miss Redneck Mormon Thespian, the story of Cory Huff and his transformation from redneck to missionary. Gestures convey life’s beauty and absurdity in Make/Believe, a new work by Portland’s amazing dance company tEEth.
Add in great coffee, a beautiful environment, and happy people and you have ten hip days to start the new year.
