Vijay Iyer: Education and Creation

Photo: Vijay IyerPianist/composer Vijay Iyer has garnered accolades for his innovative compositions and collaborations, including being named the number one rising jazz artist by Downbeat Magazine. He has performed at the Next Wave Festival, Zankel Hall, Bang on a Can Marathon and the Kennedy Center. Iyer had two notable albums in 2008 — a solo recording titled “Tragicomic”, and “Door”, the third album of the collective trio Fieldwork.

Vijay Iyer is currently touring in support of his latest album, “Accelerando”, which was recently featured in a New York Times article.

In this podcast he talks about music education, the process of collaboration and how to approach the creation of film scores.

This interview is part of an ongoing series with the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.
