Steve DarringtonSteve Darrington has fifty album recordings under his belt and a musical career that took him from the Nags Head in High Wycombe to extensive touring with his own bands (including Mahogany, and Brewers Droop). He is founder and producer of the Swanage Blues Festivals.

In this podcast Steve tells the amazing story of how he went from a wheelchair bound child with polio to a successful touring musician, and why he created a blues festival in Swanage.

DJ Spooky: Sound Unbound

DJ SpookyPaul Miller, aka DJ Spooky is a composer, multimedia artist and writer. His book Sound Unbound, an anthology of writings on electronic music and digital media, was recently released by MIT Press. His acoustic portrait of a rapidly changing continent called Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica will be performed at the BAM Next Wave Festival the first week of December.

In this podcast he talks about the paradigm shift in media consumption taking place at the beginning of the 21st Century, how he embodies “neo geo” concepts, and why he chartered a ship to the ends of the earth.

Jennifer Fawcett: Allegories for the Modern Age

Jennifer FawcettJennifer Fawcett was the National New Play Network Emerging Playwright-in-Residence at Curious Theatre Company in Denver for the 2008/09 Season. Originally from Canada, she is a graduate of the Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop. She is the winner of the KCACTF National Science Playwriting Award for The Atlas of Mud (previously called Twenty Moments in the Space Between.) Her work has been developed and presented at the Kennedy Center, Cultural Conversations (Penn State), The New Bridges Fest (Theater Masters, Aspen; Palm Beach Dramaworks), the NNPN National Showcase of New Plays (Orlando), University of Kansas (American College Theatre Festival), Central Square Theatre (Boston), The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and Curious Theatre Company (Denver). Atlas of Mud will be presented as part of the Lark Play Development Center’s Playwright’s Week Festival.

In this podcast Jennifer talks about the importance of fringe festivals for emerging artists, how small opportunities lead to big ones, and the genesis of the play Atlas of Mud.
