Jay Scheib: Ideas from Spoleto

Jay ScheibWriter, director and designer Jay Scheib has been developing new works for performance for over ten years in the US and throughout Europe, including at the Under the Radar Festival, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and European Dream Festival among others. He is an associate Professor for Music and Theater Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a past recipient of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for directors.

In this podcast Jay talks about the herculean task of developing new work, the performance piece Addicted to Bad Ideas, which will be playing at Spoleto Festival 2009, and upcoming work still being developed.

Richard Fusco: Jamming on the Mountain

Inbar Bakal: Song of Songs

Jane Hirshberg: Dancing with the Community

Liz Lerman Dance ExchangeJane Hirshberg is the Managing Director and CEO of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. Prior to that she was manager of the Culture in Community fund at the New England Foundation for the Arts, as well as Director of Development and Education at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Dance Exchange has been creating groundbreaking new dance works performed by a cross-generational company since 1976. The projects engage individuals and communities in making and performing work, seeking to make meaningful connections between people and art.

In this interview Jane talks about creative capital, community, and how projects such as Ferocious Beauty: Genome are created and sustained.
