The Sharna Fabiano Tango Company blends authentic Argentine tango technique with contemporary dance and music. Based in Washington D.C., the company is led by dancer, teacher and choreographer Sharna Fabiano. Sharna recently traveled to Buenos Aires to present Uno, a piece inspired by the tango of the same name, which explores the causes and consequences of being in contact with someone.

Sharna talked with KadmusArts about the relevance of the tango embrace and its influence on dance, improvisation, and her choice of roles when dancing. She also told us about the Tango Mujer project, and the preparations for her next piece, Abrazo.

Michael Johnson-Chase is a former theatre professor, international program director at the Lark Play Development Center, producer and writer. After a stint as a solar installer, he is currently developing Green Collar Job training programs at Solar One, an environmentally focused arts and education center in NYC soon to feature New York City’s first net zero carbon classroom and performance facility.
