Applications are invited for the position of Artistic Director for the Otago Festival of the Arts. The 10-day Festival, held in early October, has been a biennial highlight of the arts calendar in Dunedin since 2000. The 6th Festival is due to be held from 8-17 October 2010.
The Otago Festival of the Arts celebrates the excellent and the extra-ordinary in the performing, visual and related arts, and has attracted international and national artists of the highest calibre. Local performers and artists are also well represented in every programme. The Festival operates on a current budget of $1million and has a stable and successful financial history.
Up until now the Otago Festival of the Arts has been run by a sole charge Director with responsibility for all programming, contracting, budgeting, sponsorship and business partnerships, funding, accounting and strategic development. Additional Marketing and Production staff have been contracted for the five months leading up to the Festival. With the resignation of the current Director, the Board has decided to appoint an Artistic Director, and will base future staffing decisions on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
Candidates must have substantial experience in the performing arts industry. A detailed understanding and empathy with the full spectrum of the performing arts and contractual and budgetary knowledge are essential. A confident understanding of marketing and audience trends is highly desirable.
