We head to South Africa for Splashy Fen Music Festival this week. Once again, the theory that pretty much every place has its own version of fried dough is proven correct. From donuts in Cincinnati to funnel cakes in Seattle, you are bound to find some variation of this treat in a deep fryer.
The South African version is called Koeksisters, deep fried braided pastries that are immediately soaked in cold sugar syrup flavored with cinnamon, ginger, and lemon. You can dance off the calories at Splashy.
