Fertile Ground, in Portland, Oregon brings us a slate of new drama works to enjoy. Playwright Eugenia Woods’ new play FAMISHED is equal parts drama, documentary, social experiment, and installation piece. Based on dozens of interviews, social media interactions, and visits to local food carts, the work explores the rituals, rules and traditions involved in nourishing ourselves. The program descriptions starts with a litany of modern food issues — “microwaved, organic, free range, genetically-modified, omnivore, vegan, bottle fed…” You get the picture.

In August of 2011 the cast hosted a community potluck where folks brought their favorite dish and shared stories about food. The discussions were incorporated into the script and into interactive performance installations, including a video food confessional. So what would you bring to a potluck like that? What could be more provocative and emotionally charged than Double Chocolate Bread Pudding with Salted Boubon Caramel Sauce? Let the confessions begin.
