| Festival Description | So celebrated in its home country that books have been written about it, the Dunkerque Carnival, is France's answer to the world-famous Carnivals of Venice and Rio de Janeiro. Although smaller and much less covered by the media, this cultural offering presents events specific to Dunkerque's maritime region, while conserving the typical jettisoning of rules and social conditions that accompany Carnival festivals world-wide. The climax of its many-month duration is the unleashed extravaganza of Mardi Gras. |
