| Festival Description | From September 28 to October 1, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority presents Fiesta, Australia’s largest annual Latin American festival, at Darling Harbour. Get ready to feel the rhythm and discover the passion of Latin America with more than 70 FREE performances by top bands and dancers, plus the opportunity to learn to salsa, tango and samba with the experts! Highlights include an exclusive appearance by renowned Cuban salsa artist Osvaldo Chacón from the UK as he performs with Son Veneno, a seven-piece Afro-Latin alternative group. Melbourne Latin sensations San Lazaro will also perform – a nine-piece band whose hot beats have been known to turn subdued singer Paul Kelly into a “dancing fool”. Learn to salsa by day at the recently refurbished Palm Grove which will be turned into a huge, alfresco dance floor. Show off your dancing moves at Fiesta Nights from 6:30pm each evening at Harbourside, alongside some of the hottest Latin dance talent including current world salsa champion duo, Luda Kroitor and Oliver Pineda, Australian tango champions, Fabio Robles and Ana Andre and Australia’s queen of samba, Cristina ‘Chocolate’ Ramon. Visitors will be captivated by the vibrant sounds and moves of performers including Mexican mariachis, Latin American and Afro-Cuban bands, flamenco dancers, capoeiristas, Brazilian carnivale girls and more. Adding spice to the flavour of Fiesta will be a variety of South American-inspired food, arts and crafts stalls in Tumbalong Park. It all kicks off at 6:30pm on Friday September 28 with Latin beats and a fireworks spectacular. Since its inception 16 years ago, Fiesta has grown from a small community festival into the most significant Latin American and Spanish festival in Australia. More than 250,000 visitors are expected to converge on Darling Harbour during the long weekend. Fiesta will feature more than 60 hours of FREE, live traditional and contemporary entertainment in Darling Harbour on outdoor stages at Palm Grove, Harbourside and Tumbalong Park. |
