| Festival Description | The David Oistrakh Festival is a major musical event in Pärnu, as well as the largest summer classical music festival in whole Estonia. The festival tradition started over 30 years ago, in 1970, when the first Beethoven Days, dedicated to the composer"s 200th birth anniversary, took place in Pärnu. The event initiated an over thirty-year-long tradition of summer festivals in Pärnu. These summer music festivities have always been held in a special intellectual atmosphere, created years earlier by David Oistrakh, one of the most significant violinists of the century. He used to spend his summers in Pärnu, and to invite there also his fellow musicians and students, to share ideas and play music together. |
