Kampnagel is Germany's largest production and performance facility for national and international artists and is one of the most reputable venues for contemporary performing arts. In the 1980s the former iron and crane factory was rebuilt into a multifunctional theatre building. Each season, iwth its six stags, the cinema, rehersal space and the restaurant, Kampnagel attracts about 100,000 visitors. Every year in August Kampnagel presents the INTERNATIONAL SUMMER FESTIVAL which runs for three weeks. International theatre and sance companie are invited to show their work and there is also a music programme with German and international bands and musicians. In 2008 the American performance group, Nature Theater, of Oklahoma will perform their world premieres of two new plays Romeo and Juliet and Rambo that were commissioned by the Summer Festival.
