| Festival Description | The Sarung Banggi Festival commemorates the cultural heritage of Santo Domingo, Bicol since May 2002. The festival honors the contributions of Potenciano Valladolid Gregorio (born May 19, 1880), the late native of Santo Domingo who was known throughout the Philippines for his music compositions. Every year in May the celebrations feature music, arts and sport — including a parade and street performances where the theme song Sarung Banggi is a highlight. The colorful performances are marked by costuming and dancing. Sarung Banngi is a favorite among the people and especially serenaders who are inspired by the love story behind the meaning of the song. |
