Festival Events:

Former German Chancellor became Honorary Ambassador:
  • The 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships officially ended. From November 8 to 14, people could listen to more than 190 concerts. The Closing Concert on November 13th was the final big event. It was a very particular evening in an unusual place. At the foot of the TV tower in Guangzhou City, choirs and audience took their place and once again set a final mark. The people were impressed by the large Festival Chorus, conducted by Gábor Hollerung, performances of various choirs and groups as well as a concerto for 50 pianos as part of the evening. “It was a great final concert and a totally successful competition, from the very first day until the finale, wonderful!”, said INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch — greatly impressed — after the closing. Also deeply moved and totally taken by the power of music is the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Schröder stressed that it was a matter of the heart for him to accept to be “Honorary Ambassador” of the Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships. He is in good company with another famous German representative, Walter Scheel. The former President of the Federal Republic of Germany is Honorary President of this event in China. Scheel, also former Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development and Foreign Minister of Germany, is a great ally of choral music and is convinced of its power as a vehicle for developing international and cultural relations.
The 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships stand for internationalism, harmony, joy, tradition and cultural movements beyond China’s borders, for exchange of open-minded individuals and human community, for a global festival in one place.
See you in Guangzhou - we hope to meet again soon and we hope to continue this event. After the World Choir Games in the years 2006 and 2010, the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships is the third competition INTERKULTUR hosted in China.
