| Festival Description | Ivan Sollertinsky (1902-1944) was born in Vitebsk, lived most of his life in Petersburg, made a great contribution into the development of Soviet musical culture. He was a talented musicologist, theater expert, literary expert, historian and theoretician of ballet art. Vitebsk musicians Vladimir Baydov, the artistic director of the ensemble “Klassik-Avangard”, and Vladimir Pravilov (the director of Vitebsk oblast philharmonic) initiated the festival of chamber music to honour the memory of I. Sollertinsky. The aim of the festival is to revive the cultural traditions of the city of Vitebsk. The first festival took place in 1989 and since then it has been taking place annually. Each festival presents musical premiers and despite the poor media coverage and relative obscurity of the festival, it has been growing and inviting more participants. |
