The festival operates as a nonprofit entity under the Linton Community Development Corporation, which strives to promote the musical arts and the City of Linton with help from sponsors, donations, and grants from the Indiana Arts Commission and the Greene County Foundation. The Linton Music Festival is organized and staffed by volunteers whose goals are to provide top-notch musical entertainment to festival guests, and to provide local artists with a venue and an audience for their music. About festival 2012:
- What makes the festival special
- Mayberry meets Woodstock is the best way to describe the Linton Music Festival. It’s small town meets big festival as nearly thirty (30) artists grace two stages over three days in the rural Indiana city of Linton (pop. approx. 6,000), home to the Goose Pond, one of the nation’s largest wetland preservation projects. This year’s festival will take place Friday, August 31st through Sunday, September 2nd in the shaded confines of Humphreys Park. The best part about this all-ages festival is that admission and parking are free! From garage bands to independent artists, the music offerings are very diverse with genres represented including rock, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, funk, and more. This year’s festival features artists such as The Vallures from Bloomington, Indiana; Dickey James & the Blue Flames from Illinois; Party Lines, Action Jackson, and No 1 Zero from Indianapolis, Indiana. All groups will perform along with local favorites from Linton, Greene County, and surrounding areas.
- Children’s programming
- Attractions for younger festival goers include Silly Safaris live animal show and Kid Kazooey & The Ballroom Roustabouts - presented by McDonald’s of Linton. There will also be an inflateable play area for all-day jumping! New this year will be the fireworks show to close the festival at 10pm on Sunday, September 2nd.
- History
- Past festival artists have performed at some of the largest music festivals in the country including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Summercamp while others have competed in the finals on American Idol! For the full 2012 lineup and performance schedule please visit http://www.lintonmusicfest.com.
