Festival Description

Since 1996 the World Festival of Puppet Art has welcomed Puppeteers from all over the World to meet and share their craft in Prague—the Heart of Europe—and to celebrate the Art of Puppetry. All are welcome—children and adults alike to see traditional, new and innovative works. Since 2007 festival has presented the special program of puppet films. World Festival of Puppet Art is a competition and an International Jury will award prizes for: Best Animation, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Scenery and Puppet Design, Best original performance, Best artistic creation, Best performance, Best scenario, Best puppet film and some special awards.

16th edition 2012:
  • World Festival of Puppet Art is the traditional event what is held every year in Prague and it is organized by the non-profit organization “World Association of Puppeteers”. The 16th year will be held in the centre of Prague from May 28 - June 1, 2012 and the main co-organizer is the City Hall of Prague. The patronage was granted by the Polish Cultural Institute in Prague, by the Embassy of Romania and by the Romanian Cultural Institute. The Festival is competitive, the winners will be awarded in 10 categories (for the Best animation, Best director, Best original performance, Best children award etc.) by the international jury. The Festival will have two categories — the puppet theatre and puppet film. On the official program there will be 12 theatre performances for children, family and adults and there will be 4 puppet films. The participants will represent a lot of countries that include Ukraine, Croatia, Spain, USA, Romania or Germany. The Festival will be held in the Black Light Theatre Karlova St. 44 and Theatre Karlova St. 10 in the center of Prague.
