| Festival Description | Melbourne Writers Festival celebrated its inaugural edition in 1986 and has continued to present a diverse program that features novelists, playwrights, poets, screenwriters, journalists, songwriters, and bloggers — wordsmiths. Each year the festival invites a range of artists and thinkers — including politicians and policy-makers, and culturally minded thinkers as well as novelists, poets, and theorists. A range of literary activities take place with discussions, debates, readings, film screenings, interviews, literary banquets, performances, workshops and book launches, as well as a youth events that take place in schools. The festival offers multiple opportunities for audiences and participants to meet and talk and learn more from one another about the participating regional and international writers, their work, and their impact on the the ‘world of words’. |
