Festival Description

The idea behind all fringe festivals around the world is that of an entirely open arts event. Basically, anyone can put on his or her own show, or present their work as part of the fringe festival programme. An entirely eclectic mix is almost guaranteed with performance, visual arts and music appealing to the more diverse taste buds.

Festival Dates May 22 - 30, 2009

Festival Events:

Featured artist/performances 2009:
  • Florence Fisch-Hacham performs and Adult Monodrama “Hansel and Gretel the end of the fairytale” (based on a personal story) for 15 +year olds
    • The Play: A combination of a fairy tale and an Autobiography from the view point of a girl telling her family story. This is an adult monodrama from the age of 15 y/o onwards. The play is built of many layers dealing with many aspects such as identity issues, holocaust Jews parents—children family relationship, woman vs. men, two siblings—two choices, concession or coping…. a human characterization is revealed to the audience where painful secrets are exposed entwined with love, guilt feelings, helplessness, responsibility, compassion and hope… (The play’s length is one hour and ten minutes; afterwards the audience is invited to stay for a talk).
    • Abstract: A story teller performing to an audience of children and adults, right after her visit to the cemetery. She begins to tell the fairy tale (Ami and Tami) Hansel and Gretel, but because of the difficult mood, she is in she is overwhelmed by memories of her past, recent and far, her family and the scenery of her childhood, some magical and some are harsh: amusing childhood experiences, displacement, absorption difficulties, emotional abandonment, constant wandering etc…Realistic and surrealistic images, tragic parts, parodist and comic…the play which was meant to be an innocent fairy tale evolves into a touching drama with a non fairy tale ending…the play incorporates several theoretical styles: acting, puppetry, story-teller , dancing, music playing….
