| Festival Description | All the sailors and seamen in Iceland have a party on the annual festival of the sea. All sorts of sea related sports, sailing and rowing competitions. Reykjavik’s best restaurants have special fish feasts and sailor songs are played in every corner. The festival takes place during the first weekend in June each year in honor of Iceland’s strong historic and cultural connection to the sea and its sailors. Every ship in Iceland is in harbour, and all the sailors have a day off. Sailors take part in strongman and rowing competitions between ship crews and companies. On this day the Icelandic rescue squad renacts a rescue at sea at Reykjavik harbour. Festival of the Sea has something for the entire family. |
