| Festival Description | After the Prague Spring, Smetana’s Litomysl International Opera Festival is the oldest music festival established in 1949 and the largest open-air classical music festival in the Czech Republic. State Castle, a national monument, forms the heart of the festival. Works by Bedrich Smetana as well as other Czech composers create the backbone of the repertoire though any good music is welcome, irrespective of origin and genre. While certainly not neglecting orchestral and chamber music, the festival pays particular attention to the vocal works, e.g. operas, oratorios, cantatas, solo as well as choral music. |
