The main aim of the festival is to express the full participation of deaf people in the creation and development of dramatic arts and to support and develop the creative initiative of the deaf. The purpose of the festival is to show the very best of what can be achieved in the performing arts by deaf people and it has become a traditional parade of the best individuals and groups. This is the only international competition of deaf actors held regularly, and it gives an overview of what is going on in this field. At the same time it also strengthens the creation of the present theatre and of pantomime, accessible both by hearing people and by the deaf and those with hearing difficulties. The location of the festival changes annually.
