Festival Description

The Durham Drama Festival was founded in 1975 by the Durham Student Theatre and will play host a multitude of exciting events which promise to entertain young and old alike. With the programme of events having just been released, the festival is set to feature over twenty premieres of premieres of new writing and dance works, workshops and question-sessions with respected industry professionals, secret stand-up gigs, acoustic music nights and a number of fantastic social events, making this year’s festival a wonderful showcase of some nation-leading talent.

The festival has always been one of the highlights of Durham’s theatrical year. “This year’s festival will reach more people, cover more distance and be more jam-packed with events than ever before,” states Festival Director Callum Cheatle. “We have had the highest number of applications from writers in the festival’s history, alongside an incredibly exciting list of judges and some terrific new venues.”
