| Festival Description | Tribe of Doris — a seamless fusion of summer camp and festival — returns to its beautiful Devon site with over 40 workshops a day in drumming, dance, song and ceremony featuring award winning and inspirational teachers from Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. Doris is a participatory event, where learning from these amazing artists is the core activity, plus there’s open mic performances, jamming, ceremonies, fireside jamborees, a well-being zone and a host of creative youth and children’s activities. Workshops cater for all levels of experience from beginners to advanced. There’s djembe drumming at all levels, sabar, contemporary and traditional African dance, polyphonic singing, Flamenco song and dance, Brazilian song and dance, Sufi whirling, bellydance, Middle Eastern music, Moroccan Gnawa and much more, culminating in a huge firelit celebration of the weeks workshops on Saturday night. The youth and children’s areas are packed with activities, from metal work, theatre, circus skills to street dance and rap. There’s flat camping, sauna, clean loos, cafes with food and drink from worldwide. The buzz of happiness and involvement is a far cry from the solely hedonistic pleasures of a typical festival. There’s more connection to other people and it gives you something to go away and engage with for the rest of the year. Worth travelling for! Not so much a festival more a way of life. All ages, all abilities, all cultures welcome! |
