| Festival Description | Meridian International Center’s International Children’s Festival is an educational fun-fair that brings together DC Metro area residents and the international diplomatic corps for an immersion experience in geography and culture. The Festival is organized and designed specifically for children and families to ‘travel around the world,’ all in the confines of Meridian’s historic grounds. The eighteen participating embassies will each have a booth, presenting interactive displays, local cuisine, and engaging crafts about their country and culture. Families also have the opportunity to watch live music and dance performances throughout the day from local and international artists. Mrs. Michelle Fenty, wife of DC Mayor Adrian Fenty, stated “the International Children’s Festival is one of Meridian’s impressive outreach programs in the DC community…By supporting their efforts in the community, you allow hundreds of children to learn about the world and appreciate its breadth of culture and diversity, truly ‘bringing the world together one classroom at a time’.’’ This May, Mrs. Fenty will be returning to the festival as Honorary Patron for the second consecutive year. Meridian believes that the first step in creating a peaceful world and sustainable global partnerships is giving our future leaders exposure to other cultures and inspiring engaged global citizenship. The International Children’s Festival is the largest and most comprehensive opportunity for children of all ages to interact directly with the diplomatic corps in an exciting, hands-on environment designed to teach about diversity and culture. |
