| Festival Description | Since its beginnings, Zagreb Theatre Festival has been recognized by theatre professionals and the Zagreb audience. The festival wrestles with esthetical (and political) dilemmas through the act of theatre—a festival that celebrates contemporary creations that belong to a wider European cultural community. ZTF is legitimatized by presenting the works of directors such as Robert Lepage, Pjotr Fomenko, Jozef Nadj, Luc Bondy, Eugenio Barba, Thomas Ostermeier, Antonio Latella, Andrej Žoldak, Rezo Gabriaze, Krystian Lupa, Eimuntas Nekrošius, François-Michel Pesenti, Rimas Tuminas, Pippo Delbono… and Peter Brook, Lev Dodin, Oskaras Koršunovas, Jan Fabre, Danio Manfredini. These directors and their companies continue the common adventure towards a single theatre which eliminates the expected and removes certainty and uniformity found in traditional theatre. ZTF is altogether a different social and esthetic experience. Polemics and conflicts have only underlined its status and the need for ZTF which struggles for the affirmation of public awareness and artistic consciousness. |
