Festival Description

he 14th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival will be held from March 29 thru April 30, 2013. This music event is NYC’s longest continually running grass roots festival dedicated to jazz. Concerts and programs will take place from Coney Island to Williamsburg sections of the municipality.

Festival Story:

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC founded in 1999, is an amalgam of patrons, entertainment venues, faith -based institutions, community organizations and musicians. Over the past thirteen (13) years CBJC has presented an annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame & Museum™, and produced yearly programs that feature local jazz talent. CBJC is a nonprofit corporation committed to preserving, promoting and supporting live music within the underserved communities of Brooklyn.

Festival Events:

About 2014 edition:
  • The theme is ‘Forward Ever, Backward Never’. Events will take place in various neighborhoods such as Brownsville, Bushwick, Coney Island, Crown Heights, East New York, and Williamsburg just to name some. Patrons not only enjoy great jazz but can experience the cuisines of the 93 ethnic groups living within the festival’s boundaries. Venues include: Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture-Brooklyn Public Library, Emmanuel Baptist Church, New York Aquarium, BrownstoneJAZZ, For My Sweet Event Space, Madiba Restaurant, Two Steps Down, Williamsburg Music Center, and the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame ceremony at Brooklyn Historical Society. Programs honoring ladies in Jazz, “Jazz! The Women’s ViewPoint”; a Claver Place Street Festival at For My Sweet dedicated to South Africa (20th anniversary as a democracy), and showcasing the future of this art form with an afternoon of young people in the “Youth Jazz Jamboree.” are also scheduled.
