| Festival Description | The International Raqs Congress takes place in Brussels featuring, among other things Oriental dance showcases. The congress, the only one of its kind in Belgium, offers workshops in international belly dance techniques and three gala evenings. The program presents more than 140 hours of courses, an international competition for professional dancers, a fashion show, and the final spectacle by Artistic Director, Salwa, “Plume et Poil”. Festival Story:
INTERNATIONAL THE RAQS CONGRESS gathers for the first time on the old continent, with the greatest masters of the jewel of the Eastern culture. The participants include Raquia Hassan, Farida Fahmy, Fahtiem, Randa Kamel, Nour, Shahrazad, Tito… representing at the same time the origin, present and future of the current world of Eastern dance. Three dazzling official receptions of Eastern technique and glamour will happen and where they will share their expertise at the training courses that encompass all levels of ability and perform in a spectacle each evening. The professional dancers and dancers will measure their prowesses at the first edition of the international contest of Eastern dance: The Raqs Golden Awards.
The congress will also offer the occasion to enjoy a souk (marketplace), featuring accessories, jewels, dance costumes, and crafts. The event will allow Brussels, capital of Europe and multicultural city, to bring together the largest gathering of Eastern dance artists around the world. In addition, followers of this art will have the opportunity to meet the Masters and to profit in the techniques of more than 20 professors. Belgium is home to approximately 500 professional dancers and Eastern dancers, which more than 50,000 people follow and take courses in Eastern dance.
