The biennial China International Theater Festival takes a theme each year to celebrate a famous playwright. The National Theatre Company of China’s festival started the festival in 2004. The themes of previous festivals in 2004 and 2006 were Chekhov Forever and Ibsen Forever respectively. The third International Festival of Theatre will take the theme of “Shakespeare Forever”. International theatre troupes give performances and will include works in traditional styles and contemporary/experimental theatre. In addition, pre or post-show symposiums and colloquiums will be held during the festival.
