Four of these one act plays are presented each night from Tuesday through Saturday during the festival that runs for four weeks. The venue where it all takes place is the Newtown Theatre, home of Short + Sweet in Sydney. A total of 16 one-act plays will be staged. Prizes will awarded for Best Play, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor etc. There will be no “wildcards” section—as is found in other festivals. |

Festival Story:
More than 200 fresh new writers submitted plays for the inaugural Short and Sweet One Act festival that were selected by a panel of judges. The works cover everything from teen runaways to poker tournaments, motherhood, fatal accidents, porno lines, HIV-AIDS, war, backpackers in Argentina, dead dogs in suitcases, actors, prodigal sons and virgin birth. And that’s just the comedies! Each play will be directed by a local director and performed by local actors. The development of new short works by Australian writers, directors, and performing artists is the aim of Short + Sweet International—whose resoundingly successful festivals have encouraged and inspired a multitude of young up-starts to enjoy seeing their artistic talents realized.
