Festival de Teatro Clásico de Almagro began in September 1978 when a group of actors, directors, and general enthusiasts gathered in the city of Almagro to reflect upon Spain’s theatrical past and the Golden Age of Spanish Theater. From this initial conference, the Festival of Almagro was born and as a result, Almagro has gained international recognition as the City of Classical Theater. Over the years, the Festival of Almagro has become an important gathering place for specialists in Spanish theater—professors, researchers, critics, and theatrical professionals that include directors, actors, producers, set designers, and stage technicians. Spectators from around the world who come to enjoy the most prestigious international festival dedicated to classical theater.
