| Festival Description | The International Festival Wratislavia Cantans was created by Andrzej Markowski (1924-1986) in the city of Wrocław. Markowski was a well known and respected composer and conductor who was noted for the pieces he created for film and theatres. Markowski saw the value in linking together music from opposite ends of the musical spectrum—works by old masters could be realized and renewed through an avant-garde approach. In September 2005 Andrzej Kosendiak, took the reins as director along with Paul McCreesh. In May 2006 th Festival entered a new phase by becoming part of the newly instituted National Forum of Culture National Culture Forum, together with the Wrocław Philharmonic, Wrocław Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum and Wrocław Academy of Music. |
