Festival Description

Some of the best in classical music will be featured. Major performances are programmed that include more than 1,000 musicians from 20 countries who participate. In previous festivals renowned musicians have taken part including: conductors Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Roger Norrington, Edo de Waart, Steven Sloane; violinists Sara Chang, Vera Tsu, Anja Bukovec, Patrycja Piekutowska, Joshua Bell; pianists Sa Chen, Ivo Pogorelech, Zuzana Paulechov, Maria Szwajger-Kulakowska, Gergely Boganyi, Labeque Sisters; viola player Tabea Zimmermann and cellist Alban Gerhardt are among the musicians starring during the festival, and in addition, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR) and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Festival Story:

Established in 2004, Beijing International Music Festival & Academy (www.bimfa.org) was the first and still the only annual international summer music festival of its kind today in the People’s Republic of China. Open to Pianists, String Players and Selected Wind Instrumentalists of all nationalities, BIMFA brings together established performing artists, pedagogues and serious music students from around the world in a unique collaboration in music to promote high-level teaching, performance and cultural harmony. In addition, BIMFA’s extensive cultural and excursion programs offer participants multiple opportunities for exploration and discovery in the ancient land of China.

    The deadline for the 2009 Beijing International Music Festival & Academy is fast approaching. Although interested students, adult/amateur musicians and auditors will still be able to apply with a late application fee, we only have limited spaces available for our participants in room/board at our host school The Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
