| Festival Description | The REGINA FOLK FESTIVAL (RFF) was first held way back in 1969 on the Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan. Organized by a few individuals, the enthusiasm and support shown for this first event led to the creation of the Regina Guild of Folk Arts (RGFA). Since that time, the RGFA has continued to present both an annual festival (the Regina Folk Festival) and year-round music performances (the Regina Folk Festival Concert Series). For sixteen years the RGFA produced and staged the Regina Folk Festival at various indoor venues. In 1985, through the encouragement and assistance of Regina’s Market Square and the Saskatchewan Heritage Committee, Western Canada’s longest running music festival was moved outdoors to beautiful, historic Victoria Park in the heart of downtown Regina. The RGFA has, through its consistent delivery of quality musical entertainment, grown into a professional volunteer-run organization recognized for its contribution to local arts and culture. As a thirty something year old organization, the Regina Guild of Folk Arts is one of Canada’s most established music organizations and is proud to present Western Canada’s longest running music festival. The RGFA values creativity, individual voice, the development of community (working together and being together), diversity (race, language, culture, musical genres) and the development of diverse artistic experiences for Regina audiences. Through both its concert series and its festival, the RGFA has presented a wide variety of musical styles including: old country, bluegrass, operatic rock, Latino, singes, songwriters, roots and blues, Celtic, funk, reggae and jazz. |
