Festival Description

The Gawai Dayak Festival or Harvest Festival in Sarawak is a celebration of one of the state's indigenous groups, the Dayak; it marks the culmination of their month-long harvest celebration. Dayak people renew friendships, reunite with family, and pay respects to elders and the departed. Specific celebrations involve virtually non-stop dancing and merry-making. In the city of Kuching, festivities include a beauty pageant and cultural performances at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
