| Festival Description | Launched in September 2000 as part of Hanoi’s 990th Anniversary celebrations, Festival of Traditional Puppetry aims to bring together each year a famous example of the European folk puppetry tradition alongside their Vietnamese counterparts. The festival presents public performances, and a series of performances for the Hanoi area school children and a workshop to exchange experiences and perspectives among the traditional puppeteers about their art and its contemporary social context. The Vietnamese portion of the festival program features both water puppetry and other lesser-known Vietnamese puppetry traditions such as rod and string puppetry. The monthly schedule of this festival takes place every third week of every month. |
