Festival Description

The Stones and the Dreams presents a choreography project involving 300 amateurs and 21 professional dancers who have worked together since October 2006. The director, Odile Duboc proposes to involve five venues and to bring life to their stone walls by using the richness of the area to set t he program. Imagined in the form of a walk—these events invite you to discover some of the beautiful sites of Franche-comté, in France, and of Jura in Switzerland.

Festival Events:

Program 2007:
  • Sunday, September 9 (DOUBS)
    • Within the 300 year old framework of the Vauban Event, the Citadel de Besançon has two distinct spaces—the access road to the Citadel which precede the fortications will be a first place of the dances. The second space, that of Saint-Etienne Park and its meadow will be a meeting place between the public walking through the site and the dances which are created in the vicinity.
      Venue—the citadel of Besancon
      3:00pm-6:00pm (15h with 18h)
  • Saturday, September 15 (the JURA)
    • The natural site with a cascading waterfall and dominated by cliffs offers a unique venue for the dancers that move in and out of the landscape and reimerge unexpectedly.
      Venue—Baume-les-Messieurs
      3:00pm-6:00pm (15h with 18h)
  • Sunday, September 16 (HAUTE-SAÔNE)
    • The medieval castle of Oricourt with its grassy interior court girdled by the fortifications, only “closed” space of the project. Group choreographies take place—more like personal dances (solos, duets, trios…)
      Venue—château médiéval d’Oricourt
      2:00pm-6:00pm (15h with 18h)
  • Saturday, September 22 (the SWISS JURA)
    • The esplanade of the old castle of Delémont are laid out symmetrically—square spaces on a flat plane, are divided into 16 squares of 3m by 3m such as four large chess-boards. Here short duets (20 seconds to 1 minute) are danced in turn on one or the other of these 64 squares.
Venue—the gardens of du château de Delémont
      11:00am-12:00pm(11h with 12h)
    • The Abbey of Bellelay, in the Canton of Bern, in the area of the Bernese Jura must be found with intention, as it cannot be found by chance siting. There are no imposing architecturural elements that make it visible—but once found its grassy spaces and soft slopes are ideal for dancers and audience members alike.
Venue—the gardens of L´Abbaye de Bellelay
      4:00pm-5:00pm (16h and 17h)
