| Festival Description | Atlanta’s audiences will enjoy world and regional premieres of new dramatic works by artists from the area — actors, directors, set and costume designers. The opportunity to work on new plays that have not yet been produced in the area add a heightened level of excitement to the stage. Audiences are invited to become an integral part of the plays’ development through workshops, staged readings and their ultimate performance on the stage. Each year a repertory of new plays are shown in rotation for a month-long period. Since the inaugural year of the Festival the organizers have produced a minimum of one new play a year by a Georgia playwright. In addition the Essential Theatre’s Playwriting Competition awards, that were initiated in 2001, has been dedicated to the support and promotion of Georgia playwrights. |
