Since 1992 the festival has sought to preserve the tradition of the antique theatre, of Stobi. Through the initiative of the actors of the theatre of Veles performances of the antique theatrical texts were presented on the site of the ancient amphitheatre.  From 2004, this tradition was transformed in an international Festival of antique drama that each year attracts an increasing number of theatrical artists worldwide.

The festival is a true attraction not only for the citizens of Veles, but also for the admirers of theatre from all the regions of the state. The festival traditionally allocates prizes for the best presentations, directors and actors.  The ancient site of Stobi is particularly impressive because of the authentic ambiance of the antique theatre through the resurrection of the texts of Sophocles, Aristophanes, Euripides and additional antique authors.
