| Festival Description | Celebrated every year since 1972, the National Folkloric Festival evokes old religious and artistic values through their expression in dance and textiles, and in the respect from those who represent their ancestral heritage. Masked dancers perform Mayan dance-dramas which are a fusion of pre-Colombian and Spanish-colonial choreographies. From the same Mayan customs come the spectacular textile tradition which has made Guatemala famous. The Folkloric National Festival sets a stage for these and other indigenous arts—painting, ceramics, marimba music, flute and drum, and more. |
