  • Electric Eye (Norway)
    • Psych rockers Electric Eye band to watch for at SXSW 2014. Hailing from Bergen, Norway, Electric Eye play droned out psych-rock inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe. The four piece released their long awaited debut LP “Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time” in April 2013. The album received positive mentions in Norwegian media, which have spread to international blogs and radio stations. The album was a co-released in the US and the UK by Norway’s Klangkollektivet and London based Fuzz Club Records. Throughout the fall of 2013, Electric Eye toured Scandinavia and Europe and were given rave reviews for their performance at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik. The group continued on to headline the Oslo Psych Fest and were featured on the compilation LP released by Fuzz Club and Austin psych fest called “The reverb conspiracy vol.2”. Electric Eye is highly recommended to fans of The Black Angels, Secret Machines and Spacemen 3.

    • “This four piece are all about long jams and pushing their rack of pedals to the limit. The bassline starts and weaves a hypnotic trance like rhythm while layers of otherworldly sounds are added resulting in one hell of a racket. I knew this band would be good having checked out their sounds on the internet before leaving home but I didn’t know they would be this good. Fantastic!” —Emmett Mullaney, “This is by far my favourite record of the week and Electric Eye is strongly becoming my new favourite band, I would highly recommend this to fans of the likes of Hookworms, Follakzoid or any other Sacred Bones stuff, absolutely marvelous!” —Norman Records, Leeds, UK

  • Bearstronaut (USA)
    • Whether on stage or on record, the Boston-based electronic-pop quartet has made a name in their hometown for sparking instant dance parties. Despite their Northeast origins, Bearstronaut has been dubbed “tank-top pop” due to their warm, tropical synth-pop sound - or as Interview Magazine put it, “a nimble sprint through tropical rhythms and beach-side dance party revelry.” Their growing reputation has been staked on two distinct entities: their energetic, engaging live performances, and their polished, glossy home recordings. After self releasing an EP in 2009, Bearstronaut inspired the creation of one of Boston’s most in-demand record labels, Vanya Records. Vanya founder Michael Marotta, stated that he launched Vanya “just to hear Bearstronaut’s ‘Moniker’ on vinyl”. After releasing the “Moniker” 7-inch in September 2011, Bearstronaut teamed up with Vanya again in November of 2012 for their home recorded EP titled, ‘Paradice’. Since releasing ‘Paradice’, the band’s song “Passenger Side” has been played in major fashion stores nation-wide, as well as throughout the 2013 MLB season within the walls of Boston’s Fenway Park. In addition to ‘Paradice’ earning a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2013 Boston Music Awards, “Passenger Side” was nominated for Song of the Year, and the band left the night with an award in hand for Electronic Artist of the Year. Bearstronaut recently performed the highly anticipated Boston Calling Music Festival alongside Solange, Kendrick Lamar, and Vampire Weekend. They have also shared the stage with acts such as Passion Pit, fun., A-Trak, Bad Rabbits, St. Lucia, Body Language, the Shout Out Louds, Surfer Blood and Divine Fits.

    • “Bearstronaut combine the euphoria of the club experience with the grounded humanity of a rock band.” —
    • “…Their music is wonderfully colorful and the lyrics are beautifully written, but it’s the sense of humanity, that elusive sense of honesty that I admire so much about them.” —Art Nouveau Magazine
    • “The band’s infectious, infinitely danceable sounds clearly come from a 1980s base of synth-driven new wave music, but the band modernizes it, and adds to it the heft of rock, and a whole other range of influences, old and new.”—WBEZ 91.5 Chicago, The Morning Shift with Tony Sarabia

Artist feature 2014:
  • Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds
    • The Brooklyn soul-infused rock band Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds will kick off Super Bowl weekend by performing Led Zeppelin IV in its entirety. The show will take place at Brooklyn Bowl on January 31st and will feature the band’s take on such classic songs as “Stairway to Heaven,” “Black Dog” and “When the Levee Breaks,” in addition to fan-favorite originals. Following on the success of their last hometown show at Irving Plaza in November, the band conducted an online poll to select a classic album to cover, and fans selected Zeppelin IV as the winner by a large margin. Grammy award-winner and former American Idol judge Randy Jackson produced the band’s recently released EP, Fight. The EP’s lead single and video for “The Long Way” were premiered in partnership with Billboard and Baeble, respectively. In 2014, the band will premiere new material at SXSW and continue on their extensive touring schedule which includes Mountain Jam 10 (June 5-8 in Hunter). Since releasing their debut album in 2010, the band has brought their “stick-to-your-ribs style rock” (Wall Street Journal) nationwide, playing 150 shows across the country in each of the past three years. In addition to appearing at major festivals such as Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, and Firefly, they have shared the stage with the likes of The Avett Brothers, Gov’t Mule, Trombone Shorty & New Orleans Avenue, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, among others.
