| Festival Description | Presenting live, original theatre in an informal, accessible and inexpensive environment, the Fringe strives to break down traditional boundaries between audience and artist, encouraging open dialogue between theatre-goers and theatre-creators. Audiences are invited to experience the work of seasoned veterans alongside that of emerging artists. Local, national and international performing companies benefit from working together and learning from each other in a vibrant and exciting festival atmosphere. In order to stimulate artistic innovation, applications for participation in Fringe Festivals are accepted on a non-juried lottery. The most vibrant and diverse neighborhood in Winnipeg, the streets of the Exchange District are dotted with restaurants, nightclubs, galleries and shops. The historical buildings with centuries-old architecture make a picturesque backdrop to wander the streets and capture the true feel of where the past meets present. There definitely is no shortage of things to see and do in the Exchange! The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival consists of approximately 22 venues with the majority of them within a five-minute walk of Old Market Square. At Old Market Square you’ll find the Fringe Info and merchandise tent, MTS Outdoor Stage, Kids Fringe, Beverage Pavilions and Vendor’s Market. |
