Toruń Blues Meeting was founded in 1990 and is a brainchild of Od Nowa club manager Maurycyj Męczekalski, and takes place in mid-November. Many significant Polish artists have attended its sessions, among others Martyna Jakubowicz, Tadeusz Nalepa, After Blues, Easy Rider, Swawolny Dyzio, Gang Olsena, as well as Torun bands Tortilla and Nocna Zmiana Bluesa (Night Shift of the Blues). Since mid-90s bluesmen from all of Europe, Australia as well as the cradle of blues—the USA have started attending the festival. Every year festival nights end with jam sessions, which makes for some surprising music—it’s never clear who’s going to perform with who and if they will play the usual instruments. Sometimes someone from the audience joins the performers. Jam sessions typically end with an outset of the pale dawn, despite this the audience keeps the musicians company until the very end.
