Festival Description

The Marivan National Street Theater Festival began in 2005 and takes place in Marivan, in the region of Kordestan on an annual basis. Approximately 30 plays were chosen from over 180 submissions for the competitive portion of the festival. The festival program also includes performances, workshops and meetings.

Program highlights 2008:
  • Competition
    • Maryam Mo’taref, Farhad Ayeesh and Nader Borhani-Marand will chair the jury for the theater competition. Competitors include two troupes from Iraq’s Kurdistan region and ten plays from Tehran and 24 plays from other Iranian cities.
  • Performances
    • Each play will perform three times in the street of Marivan and 15 plays will be selected for the 27th Fajr International Theater Festival. Performances include: The Stone Soup, by Mahmud Farhang’s; Fairy Cockroach, by Siamak Baniani; Bride of Rain, by Rajabali Fallah’s; and Gallows and Circle, by Mohsen Purqasemi. 

Morad Aziz’s “Treasure Flower for Theater” and Kardo Aziz’s “My Stories’ Human” from Iraq’s Kurdistan.
  • Workshops
    • Barbara, the Polish troupe will hold a workshop on street theater. In addition, a workshop will be conducted by the Iranian stage director, Amir Dejakam.
  • Meetings
    • Theater expert Mohammadreza Alvand will conduct meetings with the Director of the Center for Dramatic Arts Hossein Parsaii.
