Festival Story:
As in previous years, the aim of the 19th French horn master class, known as Hornclass and held annually in Czech Republic, is to develop the art of performance on an instrument boasting rich tradition in the history of the Czech lands. We welcome musicians from all spheres, professionals and amateurs, to take part in our master class. Students and teachers at music schools, keen amateurs who simply enjoy music as a hobby and even beginners, eager to get to know the instrument better, are encouraged to participate. A traditionally relaxed and friendly atmosphere among course participants and guest tutors – prominent musicians and soloists invited every year to host the master class – has always ensured the overall success of the weekly program and the course as a whole.
The guest tutors participating in this year’s master class will be Professors Peter Damm from Germany, Kazimierz Machala from Poland (living and teaching in USA), and Will Sanders from Holland. They will co-operate with the Czech organizers and pedagogues Jiří Havlík, Jindřich Petráš and Zdeněk Divoký.
The Opening concert will feature Schumann’s Konzertstück for four horns, and Concerto for French horn by Kazimierz Machala. Together with the performances by Hornclass tutors and guests, the master class participants may look forward to hearing Ricardo Matosinhos from Portugal, international competitions laureate, in a special recital named “Young Talent”.
During the masterclass we will also remember the 90th birth anniversary of deceased professors František Šolc (Brno, Czech Republic) and Karl Biehlig (Weimar, Germany).
Piano accompanists during the course will be Jarmila Panochová and Jana Goliášová.
