| Festival Description | The carnival includes many cultural events that highlight the heritage of the people of Dominica. The parade is probably the most outstanding and colorful event on the cultural calendar of the island. The Calypso Monarch Competion presents a calypso competion that begins in January and concludes with the semi-finals followed by the National Calypso Finals in February. A beauty pageant called the Queen Show features island beauties—considered the flagship event of the carnival. The Soca Rum Soca Fest is the competition that features a collection of local bands that work to earn the adoration of the crowds as they strive to win the competition. |
