Féile Frank McGann was established to honour the memory of one of Ireland’s best loved traditional Irish musicians. Frank, a bodhran player was born in Lisalway, Co. Roscommon in 1923 and who sadly passed away in 2002. The ongoing success of the festival is due to the fact that Frank McGann was a widely known and charismatic figure in Irish Music, and the fact that Strokestown is a great town to hold a festival. Several thousand people attend the many events during the weekend—Strokestown was full to the brim with musicians and with sessions springing up all over the place. In addition, the festival conducts workshops and the competitions.
