Festivities commence with a parade of the participants through the main street of the city, beneath the hill of the Old Town. Stefan Stambolov Square is the scene of some performances, although the focus throughout the festival remains in the ancient theatre. There is a daily (or weekly) charge for the seminar (classes are taught in English) and there is also a Bulgarian Language class every day. Usually there are students (of all ages 10 - 85) representing as many as 10-12 different countries.
