| Festival Description | The Carnival in Salvador offers a particularly unique experience—the Afro Blocos consist of as many as 200-300 drummers who play together in the streets, accompanied by thousands of singers and dancers leading the party atop moving sound trucks. The drummer’s rhythms resonate infectiously through the throngs of participants pulsating together in the streets. In addition to the Afro Blocos are the famous Trios Elétricos—huge moving stages with popular performers and bands competing for the attention of the throbbing masses below. Each year, top artists introduce new music and dances for Carnival. Tourists and local participants alike purchase tickets for individual Trios. Included in the purchase are “abadas” or traditional tunic-like costumes worn by everyone. In addition, security guards rope off each trio elétrico, offering protection from the crowds in the streets, allowing you freedom of movement. Catering, restrooms and medical services are also included with your ticket purchase. |
